There are three methods that a first time jumper can use to make their first skydive in Texas:
Tandem Skydive in Texas
Choosing a tandem skydive offers a quick and easy introduction to free fall using a safe and reliable dual harness system. The student is securely attached to an experienced tandem master who takes charge of such vital functions as properly exiting the aircraft, opening the parachute and landing safely. Preparation for a tandem skydive in Texas only takes about 15 minutes. Free from responsibility, the student can relax and enjoy the skydive knowing there is a qualified instructor in charge. This is the perfect way to feel the rush of skydiving while having the freedom to enjoy the experience and the amazing view of the Texas landscape.
The first time jumper exits the aircraft from an altitude of 10,000 to 14,000 feet and experiences 30 to 60 seconds of free fall. At 5,000 feet, the instructor deploys a huge ram-air parachute designed for two. The student can have their choice of a gentle or thrilling parachute ride to the ground, where they should experience a soft landing back on Texas soil. Tandem skydiving allows many disabled people, subject to a satisfactory risk assessment, to experience the thrill of skydiving. Tandem skydiving students who are bitten by the skydiving bug can move on to Accelerated Free Fall for more advanced training.
Static Line Skydive in Texas
A static line descent can be made after a ground training course that lasts 4-6 hours. The jump involves a student skydiver leaving the aircraft at around 3500 feet. The main parachute is deployed using a device called a "static line" which is a length of webbing attached to the aircraft. The other end is attached to the pack that contains the parachute. As the skydiver falls away from the aircraft, the static line pulls out the main parachute and begins the deployment for the student. The canopy is a modern "square parachute" which is specifically designed to allow the skydive student to steer the parachute to the landing area. A helmet radio is often used to coach the student and assist with a proper landing.
Static Line Skydiving opens the way to becoming certified to skydive in Texas. Further training and more descents will allow the student to make more difficult jumps without the static line including manual parachute deployment and that unforgettable first free fall skydive through Texas skies!
Texas Accelerated Free Fall Skydiving
Accelerated Free Fall (or "AFF") is an intensive course which allows for rapid progression in skydiving. The student's first descent is from 10,000 - 14,000 feet and they are accompanied by two highly specialized instructors who guide the student in free fall. Hand signals are used for communication with the student during free fall and a headset radio is implimented under canopy to help the student properly steer the parachute. A skydive student experiences 30 - 60 seconds of free fall before they open their own ram-air canopy at around 5000 feet and steer it back to the drop zone. Of the three methods for a first skydiving experience, AFF is the closest to the excitement of becoming certified to skydive in Texas.
Your first AFF skydive is the beginning of a week long course of 8 to 10 jumps which will qualify you as a certified skydiver in your own right. If you know that you want to pursue skydiving for more than a single jump, this is the quickest and most motivating method available.
No matter which method you choose for your first skydive in Texas, Texas Skydiving is here to assist you and make sure you are trained and accompanied by the top professionals who skydive in Texas!
